be it ever so humble...

Home again.  We've had an amazing trip.  Saw incredible beauty.  Drank tasty beer.  Planning next adventure.

no laboring today

Finally a day of rest.  No plans.  No breweries.  Just relaxing.  Reading.  Looking at scenery.  Bracing for the final push home tomorrow.

Word to the wise.  If you ever go to Park City, Utah, and you choose to stay at the Marriott, do not get all giddy (as I did) when they tell you they're putting you in a balcony room on the 4th floor.  I was thinking that we'd have a lovely view of the mountain behind us or the city below in front of us.  But no.  Our balcony overlooks a small enclosed (and tiled) atrium...over the pool.  Can you say screaming kids at 8am?  All of them running and splashing about in this tiny little hell hole of a space?  I really wanted to step out on the balcony in my underwear and punk band morning hair and tell them to shut the hell up.  I really wanted to remind their stupid parents that SOME people don't have kids and don't want to be awakened before the bell strikes 10am on their vacation and do they not remember a time when they didn't either? and what time will they be leaving? and hey, don't make me come down there.  sigh  I guess it's a sure sign vacation's over.

homeward bound...well, almost

Yesterday we left Tahoe and headed east, continuing our journey back home.  We stopped in Reno for another In-N-Out fix.  (INO isn't in Colorado, so we have to get it when we can!)  Sofa king good!!!

We stopped in Elko for the night.  My dad used to gather up a couple of friends and come here to play poker and sit in the sports book.  I'm sure Elko has changed since the 90s, but it's still got a bit of wild west charm.  The casinos are saloon-ish and the bar girls are a little beer hall, but the slots are loose and the table games are cheap.  I can see why Daddy liked it here.

Today we're heading to Park City for a couple of days and then finally home.  There are a few good breweries along the way, and tons of beautiful scenery...well, once we get into Utah.

I'm getting a little homesick (finally...IKR?).  I'm dreading having to go through the accumulated mail, but I look forward to sleeping in my own bed with my big soft pillows.  I miss local news and watching the Tonight Show (out here it doesn't start until 11:30...and I'm asleep by then).  I miss cooking and home cooked meals.  I'm looking forward to unpacking and not living out of a suitcase that has to be packed and moved almost every morning.  Yep, it's the little things.

it's good to be lazy

South Lake Tahoe, California and Stateline, Nevada share almost the same real estate.  Our hotel is in South Lake Tahoe, but if we cross the street, we are in Stateline and at the doorstep of Harvey's Casino.

See that dotted line...state line.  Thank god they're in the same time zone, because that would be freaky.

We arrived here on Wednesday and don't leave until Saturday.  Ain't got nuthin' to do but watch/bet on college football games,

Check out the two new breweries and new tap house,

indulge the four casinos,

enjoy the view from our balcony (that's Heavenly ski resort's Gun Barrel run),

do some shopping,

and go to the beach.

I'm kidding, it's too cold for me to go to the beach.

Still kidding, that's a photo print by a local artist.

So, basically, we're just being lazy.  It's good to be lazy.
